Moving business in the next year or so. When to start marketing to new area?

Im buying a house and some property from my mom this time next year or spring/summer of 2014. The area is 45mins from where i live now. The area has around 10-15 high class comminities and 5 or so new subdivisions in development. Thinking about a mass directmail postcard campaign to these communties this spring using EDDM. Possibly do 2-3more mailouts throughout the year to build up a route and get my name out in that area. This area is exspanding and seems i would be able to build a nice route being a fully licensed company and not a fly by nighter. Thoughts or opinions are welcome.

The response ive gotten from a few buddies in the industry is start getting my name out this spring so when i move ill be established.

That's a good idea, let them know that you plan to be fully established and ready to take care of them by the summer. You should be ok, your good work and good reputation will follow you.
What do you plan on doing with all the existing customers you are leaving behind? or are you setting up another division?

Hoping to weed outsome of the lesser paying accnts i have now and keep 2full days of mowing where i live now, being i maintain part of a high school and a few good commercials, plus my moms main residence and the wifes grandparents.

Well the good thing is that you aren't moving too far. Close enough to where you can market both areas and still be able to tackle them both.

So if you advertise between now and the time you're actually moved there, what will you do with the accounts/calls that you get from your advertisements?

Its only a 45 min drive. So i will set up a day each week to do all estimates etc. and build the mowing route the same way. Put all lawns on one day till its full the add on to another. Plus if a project takes more than one day i can stay at my moms instead of driving bak the next morning.
