Water restrictions can be worked around.

Here in austin, they have worked hard to shrink the amount of time allowed to water.

Thankfully, the city listen to our suggestion to exempt drip...my push was for the city to reward more efficient irrigation systems that used drip , mps, moisture sensors...they chose to go to a static two day a week policy 12am to 5am and 7pm to 11.59pm on your watering day. Variences are available for large commercial properties, but no deviation from the mentioned hiurs...all variences subject to inspection by a nonirrigator.
I think we are going to submit a few properties into a pilot program which will allow us to control the water.
Large commercial has been difficult to color in the lines....one property has 600, 000sq ft spread out on both sides of mile roadway including medians. Multiple start times ....

Some cities around here have watering police that look for people in the middle of the night. We typically have 2 days a week we can water and it is based on odd even addresses. They do not want anyone watering on Wednesdays and weekends so they can recharge the water towers.

I advise people to only water based on the restrictions even when not active. I tell them to manually activate additional runs of they want more water but leave the times alone. Use the global increase or decrease based on a schedule I give. Let the rain freeze sensor do it's job. Will be adding some soil moisture sensors this spring as I like the idea for home owners.

I'd like to use the soil sensors, but I keep hearing that they seem to wreak havoc when only allowed to water one or two days each week-(mostly referring to commercial)

Do the math first; see how long it would take for a Central System to pay for itself vs. a sharp tech with a Lincoln probe showing up as the weather changed. If you've got that many clocks, the change-out could be a ball breaker.

Mike is right in some regards. People like to see people but that does not mean you can not use good tools too.

The Duekster is right, also. With Central (which I love & support), the cost factor to link all those clocks together will prolly be prohibitive, even with Mr. & Mrs. deep pockets. Having the same, modern clocks all through the site would be a plus for the tech.
