Screwed by mechanic

I recently had some work done a one of my vehicles and pretty much got screwed. I normally take all of our vehicles to a shop up the road and they have a guy that does all the work on all of them. When I call up there they put him on the phone to talk to. I figured I would try save a couple bucks and have the guy do a larger job for me on the side at his house. Like I said he does all the work anyways so I figured to big deal. Well 3 weeks later and about $1000 later I have the truck back and it still does what it was doing when i dropped it off! Try to get answers and he just gives me the run around. I'm having it fixed elsewhere this week so that's not the problem. I know i should have never had this guy to work on the side and this would have never happened. I messed up and am paying for it. My question is should I just cut ties and just never go back, because I will never let him touch one of my vehicles again, or should I call the shop and let them know why I will not be coming back. Thanks

Maybe his boss put him up to it....
Usually...in the lawnrepair biz...if you can get a good tech to work under the table...it works out well...

What? Call the shop and tell them you tried to screw them but it didn't work out? Are you serious? You cut the shop owner out to save yourself a few bucks.

It didn't work out. Lesson learned. Move on.

What exactly would that accomplish? That's like calling pep boys for something NTB did yeah the guy works for them but you took that out of the equation when you went behind their back and asked if he would do it on the side.

How exactly would you feel if the same was done to you. I know I'd be pissed and tell so an so to f off.

Sounds like you asked for it. There is a reason that he was working at the shop and not on his own, some guys can't manage work on their own.
