Your ability to correctly identify an engine failure is the difference between getting paid on a warranty..or eating a ton of parts and labor...
Name The Engine And The Cause Of Failure...The weakest link..

It appears to be a Kohler piston (your favorite) and something went amuck with the valve keepers and dropped the valve, But it would be easier to guess seeing exactly what you seen as you opened it up.....

Looks like the valve stem broke at the keeper groove.

Yep...valve broke at the keeper... That's just where the valve was when I removed the jug... What a PITA engine to work on....

I was gonna say stihl.......what with the two rings and all!
I used to work at a Stihl dealer, but never ran into that. Your right about the pain to work on. They're way over engineered if ya ask me. It's a freakin' weed wacker for chits sake!!

Kohler got me taking pictures of broken engines over 10 yrs ago...
Figured. I'd start a thread to show you guys some of the more unusual failures I've come across.. Feel free to add your pics...as long as they are lawn eqpt related...
