Good marketing idea?

I wanted to do something a little differently. instead of the normal business card or flyer that everyone throws at people, i went ahead and had a website make me custom rubber wristbands with my website on the front, landscape mgmt on the back, and phone number on the inside of the band. I plan on passing them out to interested customers or even go through the nicer neighborhoods knocking on doors or sticking them on door knobs. Is this something that any of you have tried? If so, was it worth the investment? if i dont get many calls, the least it will do is pass my name along and build my business recognition in the area.

You've asked the question after the fact, so I guess it will be a learning experience.

When it comes to promotional products, the question to ask yourself, or impartial people you have access to, is "If this showed up on your door knob, will you wear or keep it?". The rubber bracelets have come to be associated with a meaningful cause, which a cold call from a landscaping company doesn't necessarily connote, so I'm not sure how it would get any intended use or have any usable staying power. For me, and no offense intended, it would probably go in the trash.

I would say it's definitely thinking outside the box. I would assume that most adults wouldn't wear them, but maybe I'm wrong. High School kids, etc. would probably be more likely to wear them, maybe that's something to consider.

im not too too concerned if they wear them or not... but if they look at it and i get some marketing sells. then im happy. i really just wanted to give it a shot. marketing is all about testing so we will see.

just got the rubber bands with my website and phone numberput on them today. im thinking about having them displayed somewhere along with my work at special events. also handing them out to people who think their interesting. i may even drop a bunch off in the nice neighborhoods on door knobs and what not. crossed fingers on if they bring in business! its all about testing things and going out there and doing it.
