My Father used a push mower (no engine) but it had a nice roller for striping.

Here are some roller stripers, can't say if any are better than the others, but as long as it's heavy, I guess it would stripe as well as my $500 Scag rollers,

You need to move up to the big leagues and get a commercial mower. Then you won't need a stripe kit.

Go to a metal fabbing shop and get a solid piece of steel bar about 1-2in thick that covers the width of the mower and zip tie it to the flap on the back of the mower.

21" striping kit

Toro has a real nice kit. They run about $90.00 and it looks like it would do a excellent job. You can go to their site to check one out.

I thought about getting one but using a striper like that I think would slow me down to much to make it worth it. My lawns look fine with out one. If customers would pay 25% more to have their lawn done exceptionally well than I would do it. Most of my clients are not incline to do so. (retired and squeezed they are)

I gotta say that I have one zero turn with just a stationary metal striper, which is what someone suggested fabricating yourself. It works OK.

My Scag roller striper makes the lawns look like the baseball fields during the World Series ! It's a whole different look from what you get with the stationary metal bar.

But it does slow you down because you can't just zip around wherever you need to. You think about the impact that zipping over here, or over there, will have on the striping pattern. If it didn't stripe so well, i wouldn't care about screwing it up a bit.

What else do you need besides the back flap on most 21 inch mowers? Some of them have metal ones that you could easily weight a bit more, but I find they do a good job as-is. Some just have a plastic or rubber flap which should work too. But in my experience, walk behinds generally have a debris flap at the back of the deck that also happens to put down a nice stripe.
