The reason I could think of is if there is a major hydro pump or wheel motor failure, all of that crap in the oil could get into the T gear box because that is not filtered. |

The fleet mowers...the mowers that run 8 to 10 hrs a day..year after year..experienced these problems..
I converted a few flatlanders to the conventional gear oil setup and they stopped eating pumps and wheelmotors.. Coincedence..???......perhaps.... Just my observations...

I added the overflow tanks to my machines, a little pricey but worth it. Mine all use gear lube, sealed t-boxes. Before I added the tanks I would check them at every oil change, or 50hrs. Most of the time they were just a bit low.
