Your question doesnt have enough info to give a mpg answer. Body? Reg,ext cab. Gear ratio? What type of body your putting on it? Tires you are going to run? Rule of thumb med duty truck get less than 10 mpg. Reliability has been good

I get 11-13 normally doing reg driving on my 2011 4500 its 2wd though Iv gotten as good as 17 on trips and as low as 8-9 with heavy towing.
My 2012 4500 is 4wd and gets 20-25% less mpg. Both are the middle option for gearing so it could be better and it could even be worse. |

wow, the 4wd has a big impact. thanks. great info. MPG is important for my application. I was thinking of a removeable dovetail system dump, to cut out the trailer on my lawn route. I need 4wd though to make it more useable for everything else I do. So Im looking at about 12 at best. My 2500 gets 9. So Id pick up 25%. Diesel is running about 25% more than gas so it might work out. But there is the risk of diesel cost jumps and not achieving the 12 mpg.

I will pick my 4500 with removable dovetail up HOPEFULLY within the next two weeks. It is 4wd. I figure it will be pretty much the same as Kelly's.
PS - Kelly - You were RIGHT about the time frame on the wait!!!! The truck came in in just a few weeks, but MAN - everything else is taking forever!! Hopefully it will be just right when I get it though. |

The newer trucks are supposed to have hubs that unlock electronically. In the past you had to buy free spin kits by companies like Dynatrac if you wanted manual locking hubs. The new hubs that you can unlock should save you about 1.5 mpg. I had Dynatrac hubs on my 02' Ram 2500. They cost about $2500 installed.
You need to go on www.cumminsforum.com and see what the guys with the C&C trucks have to say.
