need jeep help

Ok the girls description of what is wrong and owners differ. He is saying that it's trying to start but won't. Says you can turn it backwards by hand but not forward. Tells me head gasket or timing belt. Asked him to pull the plugs and try to turn it see if it spurts any water out which would tell me head gasket. Timing belt I won't touch it to big of a chance for valves to be bent. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong or any other ideas

there is no belt on the 3.7 ,but there is 3 chains and it could be the problem .I dont think a head gasket would stop it from turning foreward unless it has filled up with water .

Yea we will have to wait and see what he says after he pulls the plugs. Not touching it if its a chain.

Having pulled and rebuilt the 3.7 in my KJ, I hope you get it cheap. While your at it, count the bolts on the transmission pan, 13 bolts is the 45rfe, meaning a better tranny.

Yea I'm just gathering information at this point in time to put a case together of why she should not buy it. But you know how girls are they do what they want. If it is a head gasket i will fix it for her other then that she is on her own.

I know what you mean about them doing what they want.
But you might want to take a look at reliability ratings from someone like consumer reports. As I recall, Jeeps in general have terrible reliability ratings and I think the Liberty is no exception.
I think you'd be smart to run far and fast.

Yeah my thoughts exactly. I appreciate you guys all reassuring me in this though makes it a lot easier to walk into the snake pit. Im known for picking my battles but one with this much money involved is certainly one to go after.
