rusted away ball valve...
This system has been down roughly 6 years. Trying to get up and running... has master valve as well but the ball valve for the main shutoff is rusted up... handle is basically gone... its in the open position now... problem is if I turn the system on and the master valve sticks open.... I can't turn this off without Turing the meter off... this is a major commercial site and has.no irrigation meter... they share. Go figure...so how can I get this ball valve working cause id like to shut water off then replace this...

Not trying to be an ass. If you are on the same project just keep it to one thread..
but.. Particularly with no pictures.. How do you expect us to help, turn it for you across the country? Replace the valve? Cut out the nut and replace the handle with a SS handle? Bid out for a deduct meter so you can isolate and itemize/ allocate water usage? Replace the master valve? |

Different project or id b the same thread. This is commercial location and shutting down main is not an option... doubt they will go for new irrigation meter as well.
Vise grips will not turn the valve as well. Tried this... Can't replace master valve because water is on back side of it. Only option I see is... install new valve after master valve, then test master valve... if good then I'm done.. if its stuck then shut off new valve installed.. install new master valve after new shutoff. Rewire.... just don't care to go that route as its not ideal leaving old master valve and shutoff on the line... Posted via Mobile Device |

Why couldn't you just go in after hours, turn the water off and replace the ball valve?

There are very few times an interruption can't be figured out. We have shut city mains down in the middle of the night before

I don't work after hours.... lol no jk its open 24/7... but maybe I can explain to them this is the only proper way to fix.... being after hours I'm sure there customers decline quite a bit and.if planned right I wouldn't think id have em down any longer than 30 min max
