Carissia Hollies have Reverted to Chinese, want to renewal prune

Any advice? Homeowners usually don't notice until its too large and the carissia has lost its form. Any experience with total renewal down to 18''' on carissias that have sent up root stock? Expect Carissa leaves or chinese leaves? Current height is around 4.5' and my design requires separation and renewal pruning.

Thanks for sharing your experiences!

Generally speaking, once a plant lose's it's hybridization it's not coming back. I have no specific experience with Carrissa to Chinese holly's, but i woudn't expect Carrissa type growth.
