A lil help. Whats on this Japanese Maple?
Im stumped. Went to look at a landscape renovation this morning. The homeowner asked me about what is growing on their japanese maple and two crape myrtles in the landscape. One crape myrtle is in the back yard and the other trees are in the front near each other. Here are some pics. Sorry for sounding like a total newb.

Yup. Lichen. Scrub it off with a brush and some soapy water if it's bothersome to your client. It's natural and causes no real damage.

Yes it is what you will see all over oak trees, hell any tree for that matter. But like said above its more of a visual problem than harmful.

All answers above are correct. I know you are in the south so you may have different reasons for having lichen. The lichen themselves wont do damage, but around here it is generally a sign that there is too much water which may lead to other issues down the road.

Not sold that it's your standard Lichen issue.
Seems a little aggressive, but I'm not from the south. Are the fuzzy structures on the tree part of what's growing on it, or coming from the buds on the tree? ......

Looks like there's some witches' broom growing and sapsucker holes, too.
