Previous company I worked for we had a customer who just plain sucked to work with. One day I show up to cut his lawn and there and these dead patches in his lawn. I continue mowing and he comes out. He stops me and and starts saying that there were dandelions in the lawn some instead of picking them out like he was he went to Home Depot and bought this bottle of weed control stuff ....... LMAO!!! In my head I instantly knew exactly what he did... He continued say that he could remember the brand of the product.. I said, "round up?" Ya that stuff he replies. He continues to ask what he can do to fix like just seed over it. I told him you have to dig the spot clean of the dirt and re-loam and seed it. He did not listen and tried his way.. Two weeks or so go by and he comes out pissed!! He starts saying that the mowers and destroying his lawn and points the spots that he sprayed with round up. And he was them fixed. This guy is know to be a cheap prick and skimps everything. If he had just had a fert company take care of it.

When they tell you the last guy just stopped showing up, it just seems to ring a bell.

Last Sunday night, my phone rings at 10:45 pm. We were just asleep in bed. Thinking it was an emergency, or my parents, I run to the kitchen.

… Some guy wants a MULCH estimate! And he doesn't even flinch or seem remotely concerned that it's TEN FORTY FIVE on a Sunday night. Any night for that matter, would be bad.

I said, "Are you aware that it's 10:45??"

"Uh, yea, sorry about that…"

"Well, we are booked thru mid-May and I don't think we can help you right now. I'm sorry."

The nerve of some people. Absolutely clueless. I also received a call this season for an estimate at 8:00 am on a Sunday morning.

Old Lady: Can you cut my grass shorter please?
Me: ma'am if i cut it any shorter it would hurt your lawn. (St Aug at 3.5")
Old Lady: I want it to look like my neighbor's lawn (points to a perfect bahia lawn)
Me: If I go any shorter, it would kill it for the whole winter.
Old Lady: (gets snappy) I don't care! Cut it shorter.

okie dokie then....lowered it 1/2 inch

ONE WEEK LATER

Old Lady: What happened? My lawn is all brown! You ruined it!
Me: YOU ordered me to cut it shorter even after I told you it was a bad idea.
Old Lady: Well I am not satisfied with your work on this. I've found another company to cut it from now on.

I just walked away after she said that.

Then it turns out she had a chat with some of her gal pals and we lost 2 other accounts because of her.

Have in the past just said no problem and continued cutting as same height. Most of the time they come out and say "that looks much nicer!". Seems they just want to be involved or direct everything.

FYI we cut most all our Floratam lawns in transport mode (4.75" to 5") and they are normally the greenest, nicest lawns on the block. Bahia we cut at 3.5" to 4".

I haven't had anybody ask me to lower my deck in 4 plus years (since we did away with pay per cut). Was always the pay per cut customers that were the PITAs.

if i had my choice I would be cutting the st aug at 4.5-all the way up, but she was adamant about cutting low with me once before.

What it came down to was she wanted a golf course for a lawn, and didnt want to have to pay me every week.
