walker 26 efi wont start!!!!!
Hi Everyone, I recently picked up a 2005 walker MT w/26 efi kohler with 300 hrs on it very cheap not running. So far it seems to have ggod compression and Ive put new spark plugs, checked the oil and allthe fuses and put new plugs in and checked all the connections even tried some fuel down the carb and spray starter and nothing seems to get it to crank over. Im going to put a compession gauge on it, check the computer,coils and fuel pump and change out the fuel filter and might even clean out the fuel tank. Can anyone help me me with this motor as i dont have alot of experences with efi kohlers. Thanks in advance Jusmowin

I've never messed with an EFI motor but I would start with spark. I know you said a new plug but did you check to see if it has spark?

Eh.. if it doesn't crank over, how you going to check compression?
Or do you mean it cranks and doesn't start? If it cranks over, don't touch the ecu yet. When you turn the key to run, you should hear the pump cycle. I'm familar with the system but not the brand. Most of the times all interlocks must be working for pump to energize. After compression test, I would pull the valve covers to take a look. Might have a valve train problem. If so, it would show good compression. But, it still should fire on one cylinder, unless you got a cam problem affecting both sides. Any codes present? |

Do you know you can easily burn your ecu by jump starting this machine see if you can find a shop that have the kohler test equipment for EFI engines...
If you do end up needing an ECU its probably a kit that converts it to a newer plastic box unit...thats why its so expensive I would think.

UPDATE: checked the compression and it was good (120each side) then checked want for spark NONE. Checked all fuseswhat again and cleaned allthe switches i could reach. still not turning over, gonna check a few more things but I think it might be heading to the shop! Anyone have any other ideas what it might be? how much is a new ecu for this mower run?
