Hey There, I am also just starting my own company after about 15 years in the industry. I'm sure there are a bunch of owners on here that have much much more experience than I do running a business, and they will have some very good advice. My advice? Read this website front to back.... Like i said, I have been in the industry for a while and as much as i thought I knew.... I didn't realize how little I knew after perusing Lawnsite.... Equipment, techniques, marketing, .... it's all here! Take everybody's advice and experience....... then filter it towards what you want to do... (don't take mowing tips about southern mowing if you are mowing in Maine) Number 1 rule: Have Fun while making a profit... take a breath and look around at the surroundings.. you are lucky enough to work outside and not stuck inside being a slave to a computer. Good Luck!!!!

Just starting out slow. Can't afford a zero turn mower right now, so I am just using a rider I had from doing my own lawn. |

I have been lucky enough and blessed to have some capital available to me before I start... so thankfully I am going to get my mower of choice.. If I didnt have the $ though, I would totally go walk behind... flgrowmow, look into this.. a nice scag belt drive or another brand hydro (New or Used) is a cheap way to get started... They look a tad more professional than a homeowner rider... That being said, if you have absolutely no money.... go for it with your rider! Do good work, save some $, and before you know it, you will have the $ for something a little more serious...

Good Luck! This is a great forum. My advice is to read all the posts in "starting and growing a lawn care or landscaping business.
