You gotta remember to convert your inches (depth) to feet or the math will be all wrong.
Inches to feet conversions: 1"divided by 12" = .08 2"= .17 3"= .25 4" = .33 Always remember to do LengthxWidthxDepth to find your cubic feet. As stated above, there are 27 cubic feet in a yard so...take your cubic feet and divide it by 27 to get your cubic yards needed. It's really quite simple once you get the hang of it. 1 cubic yard will cover: 324 sq. ft at 1" depth 162 at 2" 108 at 3" 81 sq ft. At 4" Once you remember those numbers you can estimate faster and without a calculator. |

Wow, lot's of numbers flying around for simple mulch calculations. A yard of mulch covers 108 sf. So round it off, 1700 sf. job use 17 yds. of mulch. You can round or use ratios because the plants, trees, shrubs will take up some of the bed space. I know there are other calculations but, who is going to use 1" depth in one bed, 3" in another bed, or 4" in yet another? Go with 3" depth is just fine and I believe the industry standard. My mulch suppliers are always generous with their scoops, so on that job I would order 15 yards. By the way Kajun, love your truck, getting mine lettered up kind of like yours this season.

A yard will cover 1000 sqft at 1/4" depth with a little extra for application inconsistency. Anyone can work those numbers in their head for a rough calculation. If you need it exact, then work the math or use any one of the thousands of online mulch depth calculators.

Length(ft) x Width(ft) x Depth(inches) Divide by 12 and then divide by 27 for cubic yards.
1700 sq.ft. x 4"=6800 divide by 12 =566.66 divide by 27 =20.98 cubic yards

Ha. Yeah I do, I'm just messing with you. I saw your other thread. It looks good in some places but it wouldn't look good there.
