Surflan is very long lasting. Severe root pruner, although you might not notice it if the bermuda is not cut low. Surflan is not something I can use on most of my lawns, they are all cut with reels at less than 1" unless they are St Augustine or Centipede.

arizona the smell dosent bother me that much nor does the staining other then on my spray tanks it cleans fairly well and its cheap and we have had good results using it, but have heard surflan is supposedly better i dont know cause pendi seems to control a little more weeds than surflan.

greendoc does root pruning cause the grass to go thin over the years? I know simazine and atrazine are bad about it but didnt know surflan was. the price is a lot higher then pendi about 135 bucks per 2.5 gal versus pendi is about 86 bucks per 2.5 gals the rate is about the same per acre at split applications for each product 3 pints per acre.

Actually, you are in a bad vicious cycle. Assuming your bermuda is cut high with a rotary mower, that in itself causes the grass to be thin. Thin grass is open to invasion by weeds, therefore all manner of preemergent herbicides need to be used. Atrazine is something I avoid on bermuda. Simazine is much better tolerated and it is not Federal RUP. Many of your grassy weeds with the exception of goosegrass do not thrive under the conditions of low mowing with a reel. The broadleaf weeds are best treated with something like Celsius or metsulfuron. If you need a preemergent for broadleaves, Gallery is expensive, but does not root prune. A good fertility program goes far in keeping thick, healthy bermuda as well.
