I think I will stick to an Eco boost. The ford puts out 365 hp and 420 torque vs the Italian diesel whis is 240 hp and 420 torque. Maintaince is cheaper on a gas engine oil changes are less on on a gas motor. The diesel will have so much EPA stuff on them. I still just don't see why someone would pay a premium for a diesel when u can get a gas motor. The mpg on the diesel is only 21/28 int the 4x4 vs in a 4200 pound jeep. Most half ton are close to 6000 pounds so I'm still thinking it going to be close to maybe 18/24. With the Eco boost I'm around 19 average between city and high way. The only way I could see it being worth it is if you we're getting over 30 mpg

Personally I wil wait for real world reviews. Factory ratings stand claims tend to be exaggerated at best.

I think this should sell well for the ones who want a diesel but can't handle a 3/4-1 ton, or the ones who want a nice diesel play truck. If it was intended for work the would've at least put a cummins in it.

Why? Because it is from Europe or because it is a V6? Lets see how it is first. Not everything needs a huge V8 with massive cubic inches.
I thought it was the end of the world when Iveco was building skidsteer engines not Cummins but the Iveco has been better.

An inline configuration is considered optimum for diesels from a design standpoint.

The fact that this is happening is incredible and long awaited for diesel fans, truck fans, and small business owners of all types. For our industry, all the smaller ops will love this option, and for so many other contractors who don't pull a lot of weight, this will be the best answer. It is pointless for me as a 3/4 or 1 ton is exactly what I need but it is still exciting because I know many people who this will be perfect for. All of the guys who use 1500's to pull their campers? This truck will be able to get close to 20 mpgs while doing it! Gassers get low teens at best.
My 2000 2500 ctd gets 26 mpg on the highway (not pulling) with the proper mods so im sure this 1500 will be able to get high 20s and into the 30s with some mods. The fact that it is an italian v6 is the only buzzkill. Why not use the cummins 4bt? No idea, but its a start and it is sure to have Ford and GM scrambling for a rebuttal. The ecoboost is cool and has good power, but your rpms have to be screaming for that power. This diesel will provide plenty of power at low rpms which is ideal for towing and mileage.
