You will most likely not get a lot of responses in regards to pricing. Not sure why everyone thinks it's a big secret. If you do a good job, you will get more work than you want. Lots of trial and error in learning what works for you, both in spraying and pricing. Always make money though, never under charge for what your time and money spent is worth. To answer your question...Charge a fee to show up and spray 5K and under ($55.00), for every 1K over the initial 5K, charge a set price ($10.00). This price per 1K will decrease a little as the size of turf increases. This would be for basic fert and weed control. You would have to figure out your prices for extra applications such as disease or insect based on your cost for chemicals. Pricing per 1K could be more or less where you are, but you can use this as a guide on how to base your pricing. Find a supplier that has a good knowledge of what they sell for your fert and chemicals, not Lesco or Home Depot. He is right, you should be able to get a bag of pre + fert for way under 20 bucks if you find the right supplier. Never lower your price based on another companies price, do what makes you money. Read lots of posts and do lots of research!! Good luck.
