ATV Snow plow project (start to finish)

I've been in business going on 20 years and I have never ventured into the snow plowing/ snow removal part of the business. However, I sold my original business three years ago and opened a new business with a emphasis on Total Property Maintenance. I've picked up several large commercial properties and complexes and they have requested that I provide snow removal / melting agent applications if needed. The last several winters have been very mild here and we usually only have 2 or 3 measurable snows per year. So, instead of a truck plow, after much research and consideration, I chose to go with a 50" swisher plow mounted on my Yamaha 350 Grizzly. Here's my install of the universal mount, winch, and plow. Keep in mind, I fabricated the winch mount and mount for the roller fairlead out of misc. parts from a old great dane surfer.
The below pictures are of the fabrication of the mount for fairlead. I made it from the gas tank mount/hydro oil filter mount that I removed from a Great Dane Surfer. As you can see, I had to cut a section off the mount because it was in a "L" shape.

Next step was to fabricate winch mount plate. I made the winch mount from the battery holder that was on the Great Dane Surfer. I had to cut the two arms off and drill several holes to mount it on 4 wheeler frame and then mount winch..

Fabricating parts

Anybody else out there that tries to make due with what you have or fabricate what you need instead of buying it? I love making something that was meant for one use and using it for something else. I don't have all the tools to do a lot of fabricating but would love to do more. I definitely need a good welder.

Just a quick note about all the linkages in the rear end of those machines.
They are extremely weak. All those "bars" in the rear end can be upgraded with much more stout aftermarket products.

I do like the fact that you are hard core into fabbing up you own fixes though. When some of those parts crack/snap/shear, the odds are that you can re-weld them up for quick fixes is about 50-50 just to keep the machine running.

In my experiences, yamaha and polaris seemed to be the worst on those type of parts breaking quite frequently during heavy usage of these machines. Honda was much better. And now we have moved onto can-am's and so far are pleasantly surprised after one winter of extremely hard use.

I have a polaris scrambler 400 2 stroke 4x4 and a buddy of mine gave me a stock polaris plow off of a sportsman 335 and I will be fabbing up a mount pretty soon too. Probably gonna start today.

Thanks for the advice. We have only been getting 2-3 measurable snow events per year. Usually never more than 4 inches or so. Now, who knows what this winter will bring. I had to get a plow because several of my complexes starting requiring snow plowing service in the contracts. I might never have to use it, but at least I'll have it and it fulfills the contract. I also need to get a mounted spreader for rock salt. What would you recommend?
