Tachometer

Hi,

I just dropped a new-old engine on my snowthrower and the max rpm "feels" a little low. Can I use an automotive dwell-tach to measure rpms as opposed to buying a cheapo from ebay?

Ya want the motor to run around 3600 rpm no load.
If its a clamp on induction type, it might work... might not. Hook it up and see, if ya get some ridiculous reading, you might have to halve it or double it.

It's not a big deal, just bump the speed up a tad, "till it sounds right.
Or drag it to a shop, they should be able to set it for a couple of bucks while ya wait. Try Craigslist.
Hey, bring it to me, I'll set fer ten bucks!

Thanks BigFish. My old Dwell Tach is an in-line model, (very old) I just might try it. I know that the low idel should be around 2000, (correct?). I'll do the math and see if this is even possible. Extrapolate so to speak. If it doesn't then I guess I'll have to bring it to a local, (I'm in CT). Thanks for the upper limit.
