No, the 6.0 and 6.4 were also produced by Navistar(IH). The 6.7 is Ford's in-house diesel.

The used truck market

6.0 and the 6.4 were produced by navistar other wise known as international.

The 6.7 is fords first offering which was engineered by the Austrians ( the little country near Germany)
Anyway alot of people think that the 96-03 7.3 psd was the best engine out there which is true to a point.
It should be known that the 7.3 psd was offered at 94.5-97 with metal connecting rods and its theses engines that started the diesel race we have today. And these engines were bullet proof.
In 99-03 the connecting rods where switched to powered metal and this is the weak link if you tune them above 450hp along with other wiring issues and the oil pan if you live in the salt belt.

The used truck market for 7.3's, lly and lbz Duramax's, and pre-emission Cummin's are just as crazy here. I was crusing Craig's list, and found an 02 F350 with 90k, and the guy was asking $24k Car dealers near me are asking $20k+ for Duramax's with over 200k miles. The prices will stay high as long as people want the pre-emission diesel trucks, but there are still some deals out there. Just have to be quick.

Anyone that pays crazy money for a 7.3 is a flaming idiot. You can get a 6.0 truck and mod it out and are way better with 05 and newer trucks. People are going gaga over the 7.3 but they have issues and it is not cheap to fix the 7.3's either...

My 07 550 6.0 does not have the DEF and I like it, can't wait till I get a 6.4 truck. I hope people keep bad mouthing the 6.4 so it gets cheaper... The problem is the new trucks are so high priced that it is pushing up the used prices I think.

Stuves got it.
The truck can be as legendary as you want, its still old! The youngest 7.3 is 10 years old. Worry about the rest of the trick, not just the motor. If any manufacturer made a perfect truck none of us could afford it. I can't wait to get into an 05-07 truck with the coil front end and cleaner grill

The used truck market

We just bought an 06 F-350 with the 6.0L with 110K miles for 17 grand. It is already giving us some engine issues, but the frame and body is immaculate. We are going to get the egr taken care of and the injectors checked/replaced this week. Then it should be good to run for a long time with proper maintenance and upkeep. Hopefully it gets up around 300k like our 7.3L!

I agree, used truck prices are ridiculous right now. I have been in the market to replace my dump truck and people are asking sky high amounts for the trucks. I want an 09-10 F350 dump truck and the prices are crazy, like about the same as what I can buy a brand new 2013 for. So that is what I plan to do

Ive grown up with people saying that it is a much better financial decision to buy a one or two year old truck instead of a new one because you save a huge amount of money, that is just not true anymore.. 2010 F350 dump with 95k miles for 38k with a couple month warranty or a brand new 2013 with 0 miles for 40k with full factory warranty, seems like a no brainer to me.

Does the new truck have a dump body on it? I wouldn't think it could for the $40 large price. It really adds up when putting the body on, pull plate and toolboxes. If it is apples to apples then yeah, why not buy the new truck with full warranty and likely good financing.

Another thing that I think is 100,000 miles isn't the end of the life for a truck, so many guys act like the truck should be practically free at that point. It is really amusing selling a truck, it sure seems like guys have no idea what specs are important.
