Weather forecast accuracy

Today's rant: What do you think of weather forecast accuracy? They have the audacity to "pedict" the weather 10 days out. REALLY?? I don't trust them for more than about a 36 forecast, what about you?

i don't even watch the news or the weather.

Heard this a 10+ years ago, so YMMV...but forecast-wise, there was 17% consensus on being accurate 3 days out. Perhaps this has improved since then.

What I will say is that they're doing the best they can...and 'long range forecasts' are more art than science. If they could get it right...don't you think they would?

My best friend is radar on my smartphone for the short-ranger.

The long term forecast seems to change daily, so I really don't see the point of making it. The weather channels 7 day outlook can change 2 or 3 times per day

We use the weather forecast as a guideline and flip a coin if we can't decide.

A 3 day forecast is all i put any faith in. Radar has gotten better, but that's it. Long range forecast's are wishful thinking.

When I first started in this biz, I let the next day forecast dictate my plans. That didn't last long. I always plan on getting up early and being ready to go. If it is not raining then I load up. Ever see rain disappear from the radar just before it gets to you? I have been fooled by that a few times

radar on my phone + get the temperature then make my own guess as to what its going to do but the radar on the phone is very handy

yeah we had like 75% chance of rain one day and it didn't rain at all. from that point on i just go if it's not raining and if it starts i stop and go back home.

Well, putting down any granular pre m herbicide and trying to decide if it's going to rain and how much from the weather forecast is a science itself.
