dowsing video

I made this video the other day to demonstrate the response of a pair of "voodoo sticks" when they are used to locate buried conductors. You will notice that the dowser must interpret the response of the sticks. I hope that someone will benefit from this.

Thanks, Jim. I was always under the impression that dowsing rods worked because when a trench is dug it disturbs the magnetic wave around it. And I say that since I almost l always use them to find pipes.

Did you make your dowsing rods out of flags? Also curious, how is the effectiveness of the dowsing impacted with burial depth (i.e. how deep can it detect)? One other thing, does your eye ever fall into your shirt pocket?

Normally i use gas welding rods. I perfer brass but have used flags to PVC pipe to dowse with.

Depth always plays a major part in accuracy when locating buried objects. I have found that objects nearest the surface will be located more accurately but can also mislead one due to coupling or bleeding

One other thing, does your eye ever fall into your shirt pocket?

Of course it has, i have stories of many places that i have lost/found it. Drinking is no longer involved and no animals were ever harmed in the process i might add.

that is very interesting. never used them, and not sure if i could accurately. i tend to be magnetic myself, lol

With enough perfect practice you should be able to learn what the sticks are telling you and then move on to buried conductors with confidence.

This is basically how i learn everything. Follow the instructions, set yourself up to succeed at that level and then move on to harder and more complicated jobs.

In October i located both sides of a 4in main for a tap. I excavated it and prepped the pipe without moving more than a couple of shovels full by hand. It can be done.
