Bid Opening Dissapointment

Today was the day the city notified the bidders who won. Seasonal price to cut 100 senior citizens yards. Most small yards, 8000sq. ft. or less. 20, 6001-8000 sq. ft.
When the lady announced who she was, I thought I had won the bid. Felt pretty good about myself.

"I am sorry to tell you, yours was not the lowest bid."

"Can you tell me the winning bid?"

"Sure" she says. $18000.00"

Do the math. Somebody is going to cut, trim, edge and blow a lawn for $9.00.

And not just once. But one hundred times, for twenty weeks.

There's lowballing, and there is just not having a clue.

Oh well, back to postcards and flyers.......

Are they all in one community? Or spread out?

They won the bid, whoopee. Doesn't mean they will follow through. Reality should set in by week 5. Are you at least second runner up?

"Do the math." That likely is the problem. Whoever got the job couldn't.

Since its a total price. Maybe they are banking on a hot yr to do cuts every other week.

I would have priced it at between $15 to $20 per yard so that is between $30,000 to $40,000. So you were good on pricing if you ask me. The minimum I charge on any property is $20, but I would do $15 if I didn't have to drive far and I could do a few lawns at a time without loading and unloading. Any way you put it though $9 is way to low.
