Weed eater gas tank turns black?

Why do the gas tanks on my handle held stuff turn black? Is it mildew or mold? Here are some pictures.




Maybe it's just dirt. It doesn't affect anything other than look bad, these are fairly new, maybe 6 months old. Do you think it has something to do with them getting wet and being in the elements?

Just hose it off it's all good

its just the fluids from the weedeater lightly getting on the outside and then dirt and other materials getting on it and making it look dirty

Get a spray bottle of SuperKleen(degreaser, stain remover, etc)at one of your local auto parts suppliers--spray it on, let it set for 2 or 3 minutes then wash it off--a power washer works even better.

I buy SuperKleen by the 5 gallon jug and use a quart sized SureShot sprayer to apply. Everything I work on gets a power wash with SuperKleen. It does a great job on oil, grease, dirt, tires, grass stains, etc.

One quick hint, DO NOT let the SuperKleen sit on painted surfaces for more than 2-3 minutes, particularly in direct sunlight, as will tend to dull painted surfaces--no apparent harm to plastics. Left on for long periods of time, it can soften the paint.

I can clean it off, I just hate it because its looks horrible and it's new equipment. I guess I have to keep in mind it doesn't hurt anything and these tools make our living so I doesn't matter too much what they look like because it doesn't affect the performance.
