JAVA Applets

I don't know lots about website building thru HTML but how would you insert a Java applet into a web page?

I found some free ones that were zip files and want to try them on my website. Don't worry I am not gonna have a mouse shadow.
Is this a hard thing to do or can I just cut the text and copy it to the HTML section of Frontpage? Any tips are appreciated.
I have done the search, not much here on it. I figured that someone here knows some tips and tricks to working these things. My next step will be to buy a book. Thanks
