Troy-Bilt Edger TB554 -Weep or Joy

I am thinking about purchasing a Troy-Bilt Edger model TB554. However, this model uses a B&S motor w/ a vertical shaft. The pulley system now must be changed from horizontal to vertical to drive the blade. Why not just use a B&S motor w/ a horizontal shaft to drive the belt? This concerns me & I am seeking advice about this edger. Does anyone have any experience w/ this edger? Should I be concerned about the vertical motor shaft & horizontal pulley assembly being required to rotate 90 degrees?
Thanks!
Andy

Andy, Read these reviews on the Troybuilt then the ones on the 9" McLane which is cheaper. McLane has been in business many many years and IMO surpasses MTD/T-B.....http://www.amazon.com/Troy-Bilt-TB55.../dp/B000N8LXYQ

Restrobob,

Thanks for the info!
Do you recommend model 901?
http://www.amazon.com/Mclane-901-3-5.../dp/B000H5WWBI
Are all the B&S engines used on models 101, 801& 901 the same.
It looks like 101 uses smaller wheels - Thus, it is off the list.
Is model 801 & 901 thes same except color?

Thanks!
Andy
