How much crabrass Pre-em do you apply?

The bag says 4 to 9# per thousand sq. ft. I'm assuming the 4# rate is more a preventative rate for relatively weed free lawns. Is that right or is is more about soil types, region etc.?

You are right, Toro. The more you use, the longer it lasts, and the more near 100 percent control you can achieve. If you are in an area with a long season--you need more--or a split application.
Thin grass, past crabgrass problems, short cut will result in more crabgrass. Rye and fescue are not as tight as a creeping grass like bluegrass.
