Since you have both the 7.3 and the Cummins which ine overall would you say is the better truck?

Easily the cummins, but I have more money and mods into it. They are both good trucks with pros and cons. If you pull heavy all the time then the 7.3 might be better, but the cummins will offer better mileage with no load or a lighter load and is more peppy. Cummins is cheaper to mod if you're into that. If you like messing with trucks then I would do the sale and purchase, but you could spend that 3-4k in repairs if the cummins needs work.

The cummins also holds its value better. The sport is highly desired among cummins enthusiasts (not sure why, I don't like them), and you could sell it for more than you paid. The 7.3 is so common that they are cheap to get.

Just went onto kbb.com and put info given on both trucks for private party value and the ford with no plow was 9500.00 in excellent condition . The dodge in excellent condition with the plow showed 7920.00.

Try finding them locally for that price. Kbb is not reliable.

I have owned 6 of the 01, F350 Powerstrokes, and 3 of the 2000 Dodge/Cummins.
Both engines are great, no problems with either one.
Transmissions are another story. The trans. in the Fords are very relaible, both the auto and the standard. Dodge had big problems with both the auto, and the std transmissions in those model trucks. In heavy duty service, like towing goosenck trailers, or plowing snow, neither transmission type held up in the Dodge diesel trucks. Of course, there are many aftermarket fixes to make the transmissions bulletproof.

I use kbb all the time, but its not a one stop answer for car values. As I said, try finding local ones for that price

Yeah I did do a search cause I was curious and there out there some may have not been his exact criteria like they were manual or regular cab. There was a regular cab 4x4,auto that that had 120000 mi for under 9 grand and that was dealer price .

If you ever did have any trans issues there are places like Suncoast and many other that make aftermarket parts that will make the trans handle way more power and abuse then you could ever throw at it. The 47RE trans has been around for so long that there great aftermarket parts support for it.

If the trans is an NV4500 or NV5600 manual they will be durable. The NV5600 is the strongest transmission ever put in a pickup truck. You only got the NV5600 if you had the H.O. 5.9 with a manual trans. All you have to do is throw an aftermarket clutch in the NV5600 and it could handle 1000 horsepower.
