Late pickups or sign ups.

I've finished round 1 and things are starting to get warm. I had some mailers arrive yesterday (targeting mowing but had weed info also). So I'm expecting some more calls and hopefully pickups.

I'm not a big company and can get through my route in about a week if the weather is fine. Most were done around mid February and I come every 7-8 weeks. So round 2 would start first of April.

So I'm wondering what the best option for late pick ups would be.....

1. Go ahead and treat them but tell the owner I will be coming again in 2-3 weeks to keep them on schedule? Could keep standard pricing.

2. Combine round 1 and 2 and start them ASAP. Then have them on regular schedule for round 3. Would charge more due to combining 2 rounds of chemicals.

Either should be fine, but with first option I could run into problems with warm season co ing out of dormancy.

Any thoughts on how you've handled this?

Just because you are done round one doesn't mean a home owner would have done their step 1 by now. Not knowing your program, I would do your one at the time of sales then 2 at the proper interval if splitting pre m. Later if you have a lime or micro application combine it with another app to catch them up on your schedule. Sell them on your service program of fertilizing and weed control.

I always get them on schedule for the next round. I let them know that we can't make special trips to apply for 1 lawn if they've already missed the last round. I've never had anyone question it. They know the price of fuel and they know that this is a low price per service business. You're not talking about a plumber who is doing a $300 service. In most cases we're dealing with a $65-$75 lawn. Spend an extra $10 on fuel for a special trip and it makes a dent in the profit on that job.

I would say option number two. Do round one and two at the same time and charge 150 percent. I did that a few times and it works OK.
Essentially apply fert, crabgrass control, and weed control. Don't double fert. I suppose it would be Ok to double crabgrass control--if that is your practice. With split aps--crabgrass control months of control--depends mainly on how much was applied.

Thanks guys. I'm treating mostly warm season but do have some warm season.

So first 2 rounds are split app of pre and fescue gets Fert.

So it would be possible to combine the 2 and do full pre app along with post. Then put them on the round 3 schedule. I would explain to them that because of the timing of the pick up it may be 10 weeks before the next app.

That would be the best as I feel most people are calling because weeds are really starting up here. S they will want an app sooner than later.

I think 10 weeks would be along time especially if there were missed weeds. They would think you disappeared.

That's my delimma. Treat now for round 1 and come back for round 2 in around 3-4 weeks or combine round 1 and 2 pre apps and add to regular schedule for round 3 which is about 10 or so weeks.

Now I could pick up a ton and start another app schedule but that might not happen
