How do ou transplant a fruit tree

I have a job to transplant about a 12ft pear tree. I am going to dig it up with my backhoe. I am just wondering if anyone has any tips from experience. I plan on digging the new hole first. And I am thinking to dig about 6 ft away from the trunk of the tree. Please let me know any advice.

Advice:
1) Dont dig it now. Absolutly the worst time of year for it. The tree is putting a lot of energy into growing the top right now. Cutting roots will likly kill it.
2) Go bigger if possible. If you must dig make the ball as large as possible to get as many roots as possible.
3) Be VERY carefull with the back hoe. Dig the hole large and clean it up with a shovel by hand, pruning the roots properly (not leaving jagged torn ends.
4) You will probably need a very large backhoe to move that ball. We moved a Ginko with a 12 foot ball and needed a 33 ton crane to move it to its new home 10 feet away. Also lift from the ball not the trunk.
