Stump Grinder?

My dad and I are looking to buy a stump grinder. We have 120 acres and have lots and lots of stumps to grind. We aren't in need of a huge vermeer by any means...but I've looked very closely at the Husky SG13 and like what I see and hear and also looked into the Bluebird SG1314B and my dad has looked at the DR model...lol. I have also found a couple used smaller Vermeer ones on ebay, but I don't think they make them anymore, and if they do, I haven't found any. I also briefly looked at the Bandit HB19XP. What do you guys recommend?

I have never run one of these types of machines, hand operated. But a buddy of mine rented one for a small stump and said it was like wrestling a gorrilla. Im not sure the model he used, but maybe before buying one you rent one for a day and see how you like it and how difficult it is. I cant see grinding a lot of stumps with one of those without killing yourself doing it.:D. Have fun and be careful

A tree specialist is what I recommend.. getting professional help should be the next step. Good luck.

We are not interested in hiring a tree specialist or a professional contractor to take care of these stumps on our Farm. 1st of all it would be too costly. We have about 100 or so all across our farm. (in the timber and scattered all over the place) 2nd we have plenty of braun and know how to do it ourselves using a modest sized stump grinding machine. We were simply looking around at stump grinders and getting peoples input who have used them before and what brands they like or prefer.

Stay away from the hand operated grinders, rented one once wrestling a gorilla is a good way to put it. I have a Vermeer 665B, really old, burns oil, but works great. Probably worth about $5500 or so. Get something with hydraulics!
