99 24v cummins reving problem

When I start my cummins, it gives a tiny 200 extra rpm rev, only when its warm or hot. Detailed: When it starts up, it will rev up to what it normally does, and then immediately after that, itll give an extra little rev.

i shut it off, go in the store or whatever for 30 minutes and come back and it does it. I'm guessing this is some sort of fuel delivery issue? and I know that anything related to the fuel system can be expensive, so i dont want a mechanic to f*** me, i just wanted to see if any of you had any wisdom on this subject.

Thanks,
Zack

Well, man...

When the engine rpm's start jumping from idle to 4 thousand and back for no known reason and without anyone physically giving it any throttle, let us know...
We might have something to troubleshoot then.

I mean what can I say, 200 rpm variations are just not something I worry about.
Maybe replace the air filter.

You are correct in assuming a mechanic might do you on that one.
Keep in mind it's more because when the customer thinks it's a problem, the mechanic's job is to fix it.
But it could well be a perfectly normal thing for the truck to do.

My recommendation...
Keep up on the scheduled routine maintenance best you can.

I know its not normal for the truck to do that.

i figured out what it was. on top of my fuel filter housing there is an electrical connection that has some jb weld on it. I scraped it off and there is a tiny crack on the housing. it was pushing air into the fuel system. that explains the skipping and knocking i had when it got hot, also.
