Help on City Bid

Hey guys,

I need a little bit of help on this bid i am looking to submit to a local township. This is my first year in business so with the help of my friend I have the ability to bid on this city bid.

Theres a few things I dont understand in the contract.

Its states that there is a swath of roadside grass cutting of 750 miles and that my mower must be a minimum of 7 ft in length.

Of course the only mower I have is a ZTR so I am wondering if i would have to buy another mower in order to complete the job.

any help on this would be appreciated .

thanks

Nah, sounds like you could do it with your one mower, piece of cake.

Unless your zero turn is 7 FT looks like you don't meet the minimum...That is pretty clear to me.

Sounds as if they are requiring a tractor mounted articulating mower head, flail or rotorary mower.

Read the specs and ask for clarification.

First year in businesses and bidding on 750 miles hell I wouldn't wanna do that with my tractor or drive 750 miles in a car for that matter. That must be one hell of a city to have that much road.

So the town has 750 miles of roadside to maintain. Lets say it can all be cut in one pass, meaning the widest point is the 7' mentioned in the specs. If you were able to average 10 miles an hour it would still take 75hrs of cutting just to cut the roadside.

You would need a couple tractors with 7' mowers and a 2 guys working full time on just the roadside. I am sure the town also has parks, municipal buildings, and miles of trimming. Without seeing the specs the company that wins would need 7-8 guys totally dedicated to this job. Not to mention trucks able to transport tractors, multiple mowers, backup machinery, a mechanic able to perform in field repairs.

I think if you are honest with yourself you will see you are not ready for this job.

thanks for your help and guidance guys. No, there are no parks or municipal properties to be cut. It simply consists of roadside cutting.

seeing as how it requires a 7ft long minimum mower, i dont think i have the equipment to conduct the work.

This is simply a one-time mow as it states in the contract that the 750 miles of roadside is to be mowed within 3 weeks of contract acceptance.

The contract is for two years. Having three weeks to have the job done, is enough for only myself with a mower meeting minimum requirements I am guessing?

pretty sure 7' mower means 7' mower
You dont need to buy another ztr, you need to buy a tractor with a flail
If this is your first year in business, I would stay away from this bid, those "side of highway" cutting contracts are so low balled its not worth it most of the time
I have 3 100 hp ag tractors for snow that simply get parked all summer but I dont even think these contracts are worth having my machines come out of hibernation

Thanks for your response and guidance. I noticed that only 4 contractors took the bid so far so although its low-balled I doubt its very competitive. My friend owns a farm and Im sure he can let me borrow one of his tractors if i pitch in and by the mower.

Although due to my lack of experience I doubt ill even bid on the job as I dont even know how much to bid on it!

thanks!!
