As of this year, I'm not letting the neighbors of customers "borrow me" to help edge their lawns or whatever they "need" me for. They always pay for services rendered, but this nonsense is interfering with me getting my route done in a timely fashion.

If I do mention a price for materials, it is always the Retail/Non Professional price from Agrium or JDL. Anyway, asking me something like that is one of the best ways to get fired. I am here to apply materials the homeowner normally does not have access to with equipment the average person would not consider buying just for their own lawn. Having said that, no HD granules are ever used and the equipment is not sold at garden centers or big boxes.

I don't mind customers asking me what materials cost I always tell them the installed price! there is no debating this year, this is the cost take it or leave it, I have more work than I need anyway! My patience has already been tested! so far so good! I finally feel comfortable walking away from hagglers, deadbeats and the such. I was almost there last year, this year has been a breakthrough year so far, I guess I was like so many in my early years and just wanted everything that was thrown my way, which is still the case but now it has to be on my terms and pricing.

From the start of my business, there was a zero tolerance policy. I was right. The few times I tolerated price shopping or being treated like an hourly laborer, the relationship did not last for other reasons. They were unhappy with my price, next fault would be found with something I did. Hagglers and price shoppers are some of the most ungrateful people I know. They always think they are not getting their money's worth. People are told what their job costs. Attempts to dissect that are taken as a sign that they want to purchase their own product and have the work done by an unqualified laborer.

I feel ya... I had to instate a "no friends and/or family" policy a while back for that same reason.
