Our shovels get broken long before they wear down that much.

That shovel is about 13 years old. It was actually looking pretty good up until a couple years ago when I accidentally clipped it with the mower. Forgot I had the blade engaged as I was driving the mower up in to the truck, and it just mangled the snot out of the shovel. Had to smash the tip back with a sledge hammer, but it still does its job alright.

We usually bend the shovels doing mulch. I don't think $100 a year is going to break the budget

Our plastic ones crack pretty easy. We get 2 years or so out of the aluminum ones.

We have one metal shovel but after 4 hours of spreading mulch your arms feel like jello. We went to the aluminum ones and buy 3-4 a year.
