Any money to be made in deliveries?

I recently moved into a nice shop on the main drag of a super small city (5,000 ppl). My supplier (mulch, gravel, plants, paver etc) is about 10-15 from my shop in a neighboring city. I'm the only landscape co. in town (that i know of) hardware store sells some bagged mulch but that's about it. I'm wondering if there is any decent money is offering these materials from my supplier to be delivered to people. I'm thinking of advertising on our big sign out front that we deliver mulch, stone, topsoil etc. I wouldn't be storing any materials at our shop, i'd have to pick them up. Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks.

I deliver topsoil when its convenient for me. I get it wholesale and deliver small quantities that the big guys don't really want to handle. Its also a way in the door with customers with installation, bobcat work, sod, patios etc.

What ends up happening to me is they use me to get to the supplier, once they find out who that is I never hear from them again.

Where I am the yards have very attractive delivery rates, a good bit lower than I can afford to haul for. I tend to haul my own materials if I'm doing the installation (I'd rather have it in my truck or trailer than on the ground), but if the customer just wants to have material delivered they're usually better off having the supplier do it.

Well at least that makes sense.

Good points gentlemen. What keeps me wondering is the fact that the supplier is a good 10-15 minutes away. Any other thoughts?

I dont think there is much money to really be made here. You will still have to drive to go get the product and then drive to where it has to be delivered. So its fuel and your time and im sure the yard will deliver for much cheaper than you can
