Ferris is700 vs is1500

The 700 is the replacement for the 1500. Other than the 700 having the transaxles and the 1500 having wheel motors is there any major difference in the two? My local dealer hasn't been a lot of help in answering questions. They don't stock the 700, but can get one. So I haven't been able to see them side by side. Another dealer a little farther away has both, just haven't made the trip out there yet. The 700 can be bought for about $500 cheaper. I am just wondering if their any upgrades to the 700 that the 1500 doesn't have? Are the wheel motors signifigantly better than the transaxles? Logic tells me to buy the newer model for less money, just wondering if the 1500 is built better than the cheaper replacement?

According to the Ferris website, they still make the IS 1500.

According to my dealer it is being discontinued. The 700 is its replacement. The 2013 brochure I picked up does not have the 1500 in it. the 1500 is on the website, but I'm guessing only until dealer stock is gone.

Interesting. You did not mention which engine the 1500 or 700 had. If the dealer can't help answer questions, you may want to consider a different dealer.

Looking at the same Kawi 23hp on both machines. I just got off the phone with the other dealer who gave me some information on other differences. He says all of the 1500's that he ever stocked had the old deck design, the new 700's have the ICD deck. Also the rear wheels sit wider apart on the 700's than the 1500's for more stability.

Can anyone confirm these differences? I have a dealer who only has 700's in stock and a dealer who only has 1500's in stock, both are obviously trying to talk up the model they have. Basically it looks like the 700 has some upgrades and a better deck at a better price, but has gone to the transaxles instead of the pump/wheel motors.

The 700 and the 1500 with 61" deck are the same with the differance in the machine is the trans axles on the 700 being Hydro gear 3400 model 1500 has wheel motor and pumps. The wiring on the 700 has less conectors and only one fuse. Rear suspension is different also. With the differance in manufactoring the 700 is less money then the 1500

The 3400 trans's are turning out to be very good so far, and the one's I have operated were very smooth (in a different brand mower, but still the same transmissions).

Most manu's are going to trans axles on their ZTR's because they are just as good, and eliminate many potential leak pioints.

The decks are the same I had a 2010 1500 and it had the ICD deck, but I wasn't crazy about the way it handled... It would tear the ground worse than my 2000 and 3100... I would get the 700 with new trams axle...

Doesn't sound like your dealer is selling many of them at all. If he still has any flat nose decks- he is running WAYYYYY behind and prolly only sells 10 a year or something. I can't keep the 700s in my store. I have a few 1500s left but the 700s are $800 ( if you sell them at MSRP) cheaper and you are getting a great if not better machine. The rear suspension was re-worked on the 700s and has a lot more action in the suspension compared to the 1500s. Flip up floor pans, only 1 fuse, less wiring harness, better ROPS, the ZT-3400 transmissions are just as responsive as the pump and wheelmotor setup. Its proving to be a really good mower.... I just wish they would put a kawasaki FX or a vangaurd on the 48'' 600z and the 52'' 700z...Been comlpaining bout that for the last 2 years

Good stuff, thank you. The one dealer told me he was really not sold on the transaxles yet. Said he bought all of the 1500's he could instead of the 700's. He acted like he wouldn't order any 700's until he sold all of his 1500's.

Can you tell me what's a good price on a 700? The other dealer quoted me $6499 on a 700 52" with the 23 HP Kawi. Good price or not?
