Scag Grass Colletion System Preference

I have a Wildcat on order and looking at a grass collection system. What are the pluses of each system (clam or bags) and is there a big difference in price? The dealer quoted me $2900 which I think is a little steep. What have others paid.

Thanks
Bob

I don't have a Scag but have had several collecton systems on different mowers. If you have a place to dump on-site or a debris loader the clam is the way to go. It's way more efficient than stopping and dumping bags. If you have to load the debris on the trailer then you pretty much have to go with the bag system. $2900 is not bad, it's less than I paid.

Thanks for the responce. Just making sure my dealer is in the ballpark with prices. I'm leaning towards the clam model.

Do you have a means of dumping on site. If not, better get the bags. As much as I'd like to have a clam shell, the bags are much easier IF you have to dump in the truck bed. If you don't have any on site dump areas at any of the properties, then get the bags. You'll regret the clam shell purchase the first time you have to dump it on a tarp and lift it into the bed of the truck. Just a thought.

I can dump on site for now. How much more do the bags hold compared to the clam? I will be using it to dethatch and clean up to start out (1 acre lots).

On the accounts that I do not have a place to dump I just back up on the trailer and dump. Some accounts do require an extra trip since my trailer is full but I've never regretted the purchase. My service area is small so its not that big of a deal.

i was quoted 2500 for the clam shell and 2950+ tax for the triple bagger and i went with the triple bagger because it holds a decent amount more, but i also only use my bagger for spring and fall clean ups after spring clean ups are done, its coming off and staying in the shop. so i'm hauling 90% of what i bag away, so its being dumped on the trailer and in the truck bed.
