advise on a truck?

I found a 1997 ford f-250 standard can long bed pickup for sale. It has 187,000 miles and it has the 5.7 gas engine and an auto trans. Overall good shape for a work truck. Cold ac and everything works, also has a tool box in the bed and trailer hitch. They want 2000.00 for it. It will be a backup truck/estimating truck. What do you think?

So you don't think it would be a good estimating/back up truck to drive around a couple of days a week? It wouldn't be a main truck since we have Mitsubishi fuso's for that. I'm just looking for something cheap to last a couple of years and set my self up in case a truck goes down.

I'd have a mechanic look it over. If it seems ok I'd go for it. I used a '87 f150 for 24 years before I sold it.

My dad is a mechanic for ford..32 years. He looked it over and said its one of the best engines and trans ford every built. It was a county water department truck so I guess they maintain them well. Looks really good, runs good, shifts good, no rust. Clean interior, good seat and cold a/c. I would get not wanting it for a daily maintenance rig. With all that being said, do you think it's decent for the money. I always get cold feet spending money.
