great start with a new customer!!!

Did a spring cleanup for a new customer of mine, who is gonna have me take care of the lawn, mulching and lots of hedge trimming! I went to pick up payment for the spring cleanup and the lady was so happy with the work I did and said she didn't imagine me doing as much as I did ( which was no different then what I would have done at any other cleanup ) she thru me a extra $20 on top of the bill. I told her how great full I was that she appreciated my work and how much I'm looking forward to helping her out with her entire property! She asked me for 25 business cards so she could start referring me to all her family friends! I'm very happy to finally get a great customer who appreciates the work!

They come along every now and then. Just don't get lazy and start cutting corners. Contrary to what some people say most folks like to brag when their homes looks great and say "yea, I got a guy that does all that".

Sounds great but if could be an indication that you're undercharging.

I charged $30/hr for a spring cleanup that I was able to handle myself in 3.5 hrs! Lots of hand raking and some use with my blower! That's not undercharging in my mind considering the only fuel cost I had was about $7 and $8.50 in diesel round trip! Plus my estimate was for 4 hours and I finished in 3.5hrs cause I really busted my butt

And patriot I definitely don't cut any corners on anything because I'm still in the process of building up my business so if anything I try my best to go above and beyond anything I tackle! Plus I'm a big fan of the whole before and after aspect of the job and can't get enough of how a great job can just transform customers properties

$30/hr is way to low even though I didn't use any equipment except my blower for maybe 25 minutes total? And did all the work myself? I don't mow at $30/hr and if I had to bring a guy with me for the work it would have been more as well. What would you guys have charged for a 3.5 hr spring cleanup done by just yourself and a place to dump on site which I used a tarp for dumping!

It's OK Team. Not your fault. He does that to me no matter what I say. I suspect I must have rubbed him the wrong way at some point or something. My initial statement was meant to be helpful. When I first started out I wasn't charging enough and I finally caught on when customers started paying me more than I was asking for and referring me to everyone they knew. That can be an indication that you're giving it away. Getting more than half of the jobs you bid on can be an indication too. One customer even took it upon herself to make up a flyer and distribute it to her neighbors. As well intentioned as she may have been I didn't appreciate her doing that without my prior knowledge.

If you're the typical new guy you did ok. By typical I mean used gear, running solo with minimal overhead. Even running legit with taxes and insurance. Guys are being a little hard on you.
