'99 GMC Flatbed Gas
Well I finally got things straight with what type of truck it is, it's a 99 GMC 4x2 V8 gas flatbed dump with 55,000miles with sides on it for hauling mulch, soil and rocks. It has an electric winch, which im guessing that is the dumper. They done excellent service on it, replaceing roters, new tires and also are very strick on payload capacities which means that the truck hasnt been beaten to heck.
This would be my first official work truck for me which I will be pulling a 12ft trailer with a ZTR and a wb on, but also will be hauling mulch, soil, leaves and grass clippings. I dont know much about the GM V8's so any info would help but he says theres plenty of power. Might be going over to drive it later this week. THe KBB is around 14,000, just have to get small loan for it. Any comments on this truck or engine would be helpful. Thanks Matt

That sounds like a great truck for what you're going to be using it for. Is it basically like a stake body dump because it has the removable sides? Sounds like it was taken care of very well also. Congratulations. Drop that thing off at your sign shop and get it all lettered up with your logo etc first thing!

The dump should either be a telescoping post hoist or a scissor hoist if it was winch operated there would be a ridgid pole with a pulley on top the winch cable goes over.
The price isn't bad I converted it to CND to see and its not bad for a dumping flat its hard to tell with out a picture. What size is the engine in this truck is it a manual or automatic personally I wouldn't buy a truck with a automatic especially hauling heavyloads. If the truck has a big block be prepared to pay alot in fuel hauling a 2.5 ton load of topsoil is really gonna make the truck burn gas. |

Its an automatic, but I am not sure which V8 motor is it? But i dont plan on loading the thing like full every week. The guy said the gas milage wasnt too bad, only if you put a landscape trailer on the back will the milage will go way down.
Thanks any more will be nice Matt

I would think it has at least a 350 and at the most a 454. I'm not sure if they use the 454's anymore on the later model trucks. I could be wrong though.

I dont have a landscape trailer yet, just a 12ft trailer for the mowers. When i went on KBB.com, the three engines were 5.7L, 454 engine and the diesel. Gotta call the guy up to find out more.
Its a flat bed, but then they added the sides to it, never said anything about stake body, so my guess is they used like plywood and 2x6's or something to make a frame for the sides, dont know about the tailgate when dumping? Gotta check it out sometime. Matt

Well I drove the truck yesturday and it looks almost brand new, the interior was nice and clean which its suppose to when selling. It has 76,000 miles on it, big 454 V8 engine Vortec in it, electric dump which is all fine. The sides on the flat bed are about 2ft tall and can be expandable because they are only made up of 2x4's and plywood. The only thing that is a problem is that it does need a front alignment worked on, cause over 50mph it the steering wheel was shaking, and he even said that it needs to get taken in. ONly question is will he do it?? Or will it get passed on to the buyer, me to go get fixed? If thats the case the price will have to be alittle lower. He's got all the papers for it, receipts and such, and he's gone to the dealer for all service on it, so my guess is that its been maintained well.
It seems a good buy, just gotta talk to the bank next week get things finalized and buy it. which is my plan. Matt

The owner of the truck whose selling it took the truck in yesturday to get the front alignment fixed on it. Then going to take another look at it with my dad, who knows alot more about cars and trucks just to make sure its in good condition before buying. Hoping we can start at a low price and move up from there. Already getting excited and may have more work this year too which will be great.
Matt

mkl- I have a '99 with the 5.7 liter gas motor, electric dump, and 12' grain body. We tow a 12' open trailer with it. Also plow snow with it. The truck has been almost trouble free, I am happy with it. It is a great truck for maintenance, but if you start carrying stone, gravel, soil, etc, you will be overweight quickly, so be careful. I believe it has an 11,000 lb GVW, so that leaves about 4,000 lbs for payload. It seems like it would be a good truck for you, Good luck with it. Mike
