What percentage is the fuel cost in your operation would be a better question to ask. IMO. For me fuel cost is about 5 Percent of my gross. 87.5 percent for my truck 12.5 percent for my equipment. My profit is a secret.

I agree, this should be the question. My question is what should the percentage be?

There is no best percentage with a never ending list of variables.

The 10 mpg truck, or the 20 mpg truck.

The 5 mile route each day or the 25 mile route each day.

Gas or Diesel.

Mower, 20", 36", 48", or 60".

Hourly rate difference, $40 - $60.

I see a lot of guys here spend more in the trucks than the mowers. Just the opposite here, about 6k went into trucks last year 10k went into equipment. I can put 20 hours of use a week on my 60 inch mower in a mere 3 days. And I run 4 main mowers. The 4 trucks break down into 3 diesel 1 gas the 2 cutting trucks are ram 4500s and are 1 and 2 years old so they get 10-12 mpg towing a fully loaded trailer with up to 6 yards of grass clippings on them. Our 89 gmc we use as a beater truck all the crap jobs it does 2000 miles a year or less. We have one 1500 left and does just like driving like banking and post office and stores.
