which mower for homeowner

I value peoples opinions on here so I am asking for suggestions. I am buying a lawn tractor with a 42 inch cut. I have been looking around and am down to two different models which will not break a new homeowner. 1 choice is a John Deere x 300 w/ 18.5 hp Kawasaki engine and a k 46 transmission. Its price is 2999.99. 2 is a Husqvarna yt42xls w/ 23hp vtwin Kawasaki , hydro transmission with locking differential, and a fabricated deck with 2 sheets of 11 gauge steel. its price was quoted to me by a local dealer at 2499.00. anyone with any experience with either mower please help give me some reliable advice, opinions, comments. any help will be greatly appreciated.

Try machinefinder.com. You can usually find a 1-2 year old 300 series and save some coin. In 2009 I bought an '08 X300 with 30 hours and paid $2300 for it. I traded it 2 years later for a new X500 and they gave me $2000 for it.
