Old toro walk behind troubleshooting help.

One of my smaller gate mowers is givin me some trouble. No doubt, it's paid it's dues, and owes me nothing. But I hope to keep her going for another couple seasons. PTO clutch started just randomely disengaging. It would (up till now) simply re-engage and back to work. Today it went out. I checked voltage at the disconnect (right under the oil filter). Getting around 3v. At the rocker I show 20ish. Same at the bail.

I'm thinking it must be a rectifier or some such thing. Cleaned all the contacts, no change. Wires all look good, gave em a good pull to try to find any broken or frayed wires, but all look good.

Any of you grease monkeys have any sage advice?

Edit: it's a Toro 30159 if that helps at all.

Just for fun, I checked the clutches resistance. It measures 3.5 ohms. Pretty sure if I send some volts to it, it should be good to go.

Mine did the same thing. I took the relay out and jumped the wires. Works fine for now. Going on two weeks with it that way. I wired in a new switch to engage the blades. I used a normal on/off rocker switch.

I think my issue is with the toro delay module.

Right on. I want to keep it correct. Too much liability to let others use it after any mods. And that relay is there for a reason. All that current will likely kill the new switch pretty quick. Or worse, if the switch limits the current available, you may kill the clutch prematurely.

I know sometimes you have to "do what you gotta do". But I'd recommend fixing it right ASAP.

I think both my switches were weak. In attempting to troubleshoot the relay etc. I destroyed the rocker switch. Kinda forced the decision to replace that. At that point it would engage again, but stopped after a minute or two. Restarted again only to stop very shortly. Decided to try jumping out the bail switch, and presto! Cut my whole yard with the 32" just to give it a good run.

Pretty pricey switches, but what can you do? Gotta keep the bail functional.
