Question....Buying a new John Deere 4510 4X4 w/ loader. My issue is the trailer to haul it with. My original plan was to buy a "All Pro" 20' gooseneck, 2 7K axles w/ brakes on both axles, 2 load jacks in front, fold up ramps, and some other stuff for $3150.00 + Delivery of about $250.00. Will also have to add gooseneck ball and brake controller to truck for about $350.00 + tax. All this will come too about $3800.00 ready to haul.
Now...The dealer has a nice (practically new) "Diamond C" 18' tag a long with 2 3500lb axles w/ electric brakes on one axle. This trailer is built for hauling a car but, I measured every thing and the tractor with loader, tiller and boxblade will fit on trailer. The only thing is my gross weight will be very close. It will definitely work the trailer to the max. Can buy for $1500.00 out the door. Trailer looks new. Will still have to add elec. brake controller because my current lawn equip. trailer has surge brakes.
Question being.....Should I buy this used trailer? Do you think it will work good enough for hauling this tractor to jobsites.
Oh yea.....Tow vehicle is a 2002 Chevy 2500HD 4X4 w/Allison 1000 series automatic trans, 8100 Vortex engine. 8.5 mpg..wow
I went through the same dilemma as you. My yanmar tractor weighs about 2200 pounds with attachments. I could have stuffed it onto a single axle 3,500 pound trailer, but I would have been maxing it out. Instead I spent a few bucks more and bought a 7,000 tandem axle trailer. Now I don't have to worry about "pushing the limits" on my trailer. Keep in mind that you can't haul 7,000 pounds on a 7,000 pound trailer. My 7,000 pound trailer only can carry about 5,500, because of course you have to subtract the weight of the trailer itself. My feeling is that your 7K trailer will not be adequate for what you want to use it for. A gooseneck might be overkill, and you also lose your truck bed. If it were me, I would get a 12,000 gvwr 20 foot tilt bed with a conventional ball hitch. Then you can handle your machine with plenty of reserve capacity and still use your truck bed.
Bought a new 20' gooseneck, 10400K GVWR, brakes on both axles, 2 jacks, 5' fold up ramps, 83" between wheel wells, spare tire & wheel mounted, and stake pokets @ 2'. Paid $2500.00 + tax.
