I bought a 99 Ford F-250 Super Duty crew cab with the 7.3 Stroke in it in 2007 with 146,xxx miles (for $7,000!). It now has 270,xxx miles and running strong. I've had minimal repairs and still make almost 16mpg average.
Also have a 2001 Ford Expedition with 151K miles, a 2002 Ford Lightning with 130K miles, and a 1989 Mustang 5.0 with a scant 94K miles..............yea, I bleed Ford blue...........

It's not the miles that count its who maintained the vehicle.

My F250 5.4 has just passed 278,000 miles. It gets no better than 14 mpg while towing.

A lot of suspension and brake problems on the way, with the engine not being stellar either (COPs, manifolds, plugs).

It all depends on maintenance, how it is driven, and what engine. I have seen many old 7.3s with 300k+ milage and run great

My 2002 F-250 with a 5.4 I bought with 100,900, it now has just shy of 173,000, pulling a 16' trailer almost every day. Still running strong, did the typical exhaust manifolds around 150,000. Just bought another '02 with the 5.4 with 117,000 on it. These motors won't win any races, but they are reliable and have enough power to get the job done in any normal lawn care scenario. The only time I've really wished for more power was hauling loads over 4-5 ton, then you really just need a diesel.

I am about to have the ball joints replaced for the 4th time on my F250. I always bought quality stuff and greased regularly but they just don't last more than 50 - 100k per set.

The truck has now over 300k on the clock and is a real nightmare to keep on the road, come spring I will be shopping for something new.

I bet this would have a different ending if he had the 6.0. mine drove me nuts and traded it with 124k. never plowed or worked hard
