Ever used a lead generating company?

Just got a call from one, 25ish a month plus per lead.

Have you had success with anything like this?

I'm giving Yodle a shot. They're not like a regular lead company, they build a website and get it to the top of the search listings. However now that I've seen the website they built and the way the content was written, it's a disgrace to my company and my website that I spent many hours building & will be ending it very soon unless some solid leads come my way.

We used Thumbtack when we first started and got a couple of customers from it. It can be effective but I have since found much better ways to bring in customers for free so we don't really use it anymore. I still monitor the leads they send but I don't pay for the service. In the future I might consider using it again so I can pick specific jobs that I want to take. Basically the ones that want more done than just mowing.

On the plus side, you've recognized that you need to run like hell from them. If you think they were over the top aggressive trying to land you, wait until you cancel.

To be blunt, no, it's not. That's the equivalent of saying to excel at being an LCO, you just need a 21" mower.

Web developers should not be confused with SEOs. For another analogy, this is like saying anyone with a JD should be able to successfully argue in front of the Supreme Court. If you can find one person who legitimately does both well, you've found a keeper.
