best advertising tactics?

If next year you wanted to grow your business at sales season from 75 accounts to 300 accounts what tactic would you use for advertising? What worked for you back in the day? flyers? EDDM mailing? little shopper magazines? what did you do that worked the best? thanks

Is 300 accounts your goal, or just a hypothetical number? If you really want 300 accounts in one year that may be difficult to pull off. With that being said I would start with having around 10,000 Flyers printed & find an effective way to distribute them. At the level you are trying to grow by it will be really difficult to do much targeted advertising so pick out a local shopping center, and place flyers on nice cars (this is faster then hanging flyers on mailboxs, or using door hangers). If you have a good flyer you can expect around a 1% return rate so figure around 100 calls off of 10,000 flyers. If you land 60% of the calls you will theoretically be at 60 jobs from 10,000 flyers.

If you were simply asking what forms of advertising I find most effective I would say dollar for dollar
A. Flyers distributed in quantities of 1,000 but really well targeted (IE. pick neighborhoods that are new, or have people who you think would be interested in your service)

B. Local online classifieds. Local classifieds tend to be much less competitive then craigslist so it can be easier for those looking for your service to find you.

"What worked for you back in the day?" is probably not the best approach to take. What has worked over the last 2 or 3 years is probably more useful.

EDDM, Flyers/Door Hangers, and Web Marketing (organic and targeted search campaigns via Google Adwords) can be readily scaled to acquire customers, with budget, execution of marketing campaigns/quality, and business operations being your primary, limiting factors.

Simply put, with as large a metro area as you're operating in, your customer acquisition limit is going to be constrained by the budget and service level/manpower you have.

Average fertilizing client costs ~$125 to acquire thru marketing. You need some coin to get 300 in a season. Broadcast / broadreach untargeted methods wont work unless your service footprint is significant
